I had tacos today at this small market/ taqueria. The carnitas and the asada were both very good, and the service was friendly and fast. There's seating outside, and there's plenty of easy parking. I'll certainly be young back!

Wonderful al pastor tacos and a pretty decent carne asada burrito! It has a strong base but could use a little extras like sour cream, avocado, and a good salsa. Also pastor tacos are perfect as is. They are pricey but totally worth it

Been coming here for years even after moving away from Grover for their yummy pastor tacos. Always so fire, they almost always hook me up with cucumbers, sometimes potatoes sometimes a whole extra taco. Don't let the outside fool you, hole in the wall kinda spots are the best!

Came here after dune buggy experience cause we were so hungry. I had book marked this place but was undecided if we'd actually make it. With it being just us and no kids we made it here and we sure are glad that we did. It's a small marketplace with outside seating. 2 orders of pescadero and 4 orders of al pastor and chips and spicy salsa. Total cost $27 Pescadero was AhMaZing! The fish was cooked so perfectly and the tortilla was soft and fresh! Al pastor was legit one of the best ones we have had outside of Mexico. We contemplated getting more (: lastly, that spicy salsa! Just the perfect balance. We may come back tomorrow!

Came in for lunch on a taco Tuesday. The Pastor tacos were reminiscent of days in Baja. Meat was fresh from the rotisserie. Finished on the flat top. The kiss of pineapple sang a true not of Al pastor. The sala, cilantro and avocado crema was superior. The soccer game made for a nice ambiance in an otherwise homey atmosphere. The chunks of radish and thick clicked cucumber tempered nickel the heat on the grilled whole jalapeño. You know it's the right place when you look around to see construction workers and surfers taking in the delicious food. A gem of a stop sure to be on repeat when in the area.

This grocery is know for it pastor tacos and in my opinion they are the best in SLO county. But today I came with a craving for a Torta. The expert chefs here grill all their meats "Santa Maria Style" over red oak right out front of the grocery and the smell of these meats rendering their fats and caramelizing their sugars on the grill is mouthwatering as you walk into the building. I chose the chicken Torta and it did not disappoint.

By far the best Al Pastor Tacos ($3.50 each) I've had outside of Mexico. The girl had the fish tacos ($3.75 each) and was impressed with the generous portion of Tilapia. I also had the Al Pastor Burrito ($12.50). It was good but at that price point I recommend sticking with the Al Pastor tacos made hot and fresh out front.

So FINALLY after living here almost a year, we have found OUR taco spot for Al Pastor tacos. We also tried the Carne asada tacos but they were not as good as the Al Pastor. The Al Pastor tacos were LEGIT, hence why they received 5 stars ‼ We loved that the meat is cooked on a "trunco". You'll see in the pic. With our order of tacos we were given an extra little tostada. Which was just as tasty. The young man that was grilling was kind and we received our tacos on a timely manner, even though they were quite busy. He Seemed like a real "taquero ‼ There's a nice set up outside, they are set up right in front of a little market. The only grill the Al Pastor tacos outside. But you can order other food items inside of market. You pay inside for Al Pastor tacos. A must try‼

This is my new favorite Mexican spot to eat. I will drive my butt from SLO to eat here. It's just a little hole in the wall Mexican market with grocery items and what not and also has food! You know when the guy taking your order doesn't know much English and a Mexican grandma is working the register, the food is going to be AMAZING. And amazing it was. I ordered an asada burrito, which was absolutely delicious. They smoke their meat outside, so you can taste the smokiness in the meat. So good. Their salsa is HOT and delicious. The guy cooking meat gave us chips and guac on the house since we drove from SLO. He was awesome. I can't wait to go back to try out more food!

A real "Dirt-on-the-floor" Hole-in-wall along with "Smoke-in-the-air" serving up either Meat-on-a-stick [done "Gyro-style"...Tacos de trompo { "Spinning Top" }], or Meat-on-a-grill. While this may be most real "Real Mexican BBQ" on the Central Coast, not far from a beach...you may inhale the equivalent of at least one cigarettes worth of BBQ smoke when you stop in here. These are reportedly homemade style "authentic" Mexican food made by Mexicans and recommended to me by a local Mixteco friend who grew up in Santa Maria. When serial local Mexicans, whom I volunteer with doing vaccine clinics for the underserved, recommend where they go for good eats, I definitely listen. For some odd reason, some new friends seem to always try to rib me about how it came to be for someone who lives in Pismo Beach came to hang out with what they term "Brown People". While I do not always get the jokes right away, they often get to me for some strange reason. It could be a artifact of our times and/or a generational thing. Before I made these new friends, I had no clue about this place, nor where the heck it was. From the vague description from my friends, it seems to be as remote as the dark side of the moon, when in fact, it is really only several blocks away from the main drag of touristy Grande Ave. and the greater Grover Beach/ Arroyo Grande/ 5 Cities areas. While places like this seem out of some Retro-movie that may feature mean hombres, dirt, and a potential food poisoning, it merely puts a dirt floor on to the set of a "hole-in-the-wall". In some ways it reminds me of a place I once ate out in Bali many decades ago, or even some places in Micronesia. As for the eats, they have the Gyro-looking thing going on in the front, in which your mileage may vary. The Gyro-looking meat on the vertical metal stick keeps reminding me of Greek street food in wee hours of drunken stupor when I was out late in the East Village of NYC as an "up to no good" teenager. Indeed some on-line references claim this..."The dish is a direct descendant of shawarma, brought by Lebanese immigrants who arrived in Mexico in the early twentieth century.". It is termed Tacos Al Pastor (Marinated, Spit-Roasted Tacos). The BBQ beef strips, that seem to emit as much smoke as the Hawaiian volcanos, while cooking, have the most amazing taste profile that I have ever found in a Burrito. While Tacos from either the Stick-meat or the Carnitas in the back are fun, the BBQ Smoky Beef is worth risking cancer from either the consumption or inhalation of carcinogenic Tetracyclic Hydrocarbons....and yes, Carcinogens can smell very nice it seems. I have been there a few times so far and it is interesting. Fellow customerrs can range from what look like local College kids to tatooed fellows who seem questionable. Since I both went to College and worked with Psychotic gang members in prisons, neither really phase me all that much. The only issue it seems is my horridly poor relative lack of language skills...and sometimes the impatience of some staff with the lack of such. This is definitely not the near sterile confines of Whole Foods Market nor Dave's Chicken...so if one wants to have food, while also getting exposed to so-called natural antigens...well here you go. While yes, one can get concerned that they likely do not get 100% on the local restaurant safety scale [not everyone does] and certainly most who come here, could not care less. Actually, overall I have gotten sicker from being feed overrip frig artifacts, reheated by my honey than anything else. The more mature lady at the checkout counter inside is always really pleasant to me. Since I cannot refrain from trying to yack with almost anyone in line [regardless of reciprocity] about food related topics, it is no wonder that some customers here give me a look like I am Muy Loco. Regardless of response or the lack of one, for some reason I cannot help from repeated stating how wonderful the food and this place is....or keeping asking serial customers in line on what their favorite food is here. It could be an artifact of excessive smoke inhalation. Since they are not all that far from some MJ dispensories...who knows? I would throw in some more broke Spanish, but why pretend that my remote JHS Spanish, which I hated to study back in Brooklyn, is even worth much. I will stick to this! Muy Bueno! & Gracias! Ref: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/tacos-al-pastor-marinated-spit-roasted-tacos-56389863 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_pastor "...The Lebanese version, shawarma, was brought to Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by a wave of Lebanese immigrants, mainly Christians such as the Maronites who have no religious dietary restrictions on eating pork. In the 1960s, Mexican-born progeny of these immigrants began opening their own restaurants..."
